5 Calorie Burning Foods

27 Feb , 2014

Cayenne Pepper

This fiery red spice can assist your weight loss by decreasing your appetite and increasing calorie-burn during digestion.  Cayenne works as a digestive aid in supporting the body’s ability to metabolize food (and toxins) and thus promotes weight loss.  Research has shown that if you take cayenne pepper for breakfast it supresses your appetite, leading to less caloric intake throughout the day. In boosting your metabolism, Cayenne aids the body in burning excess amounts of fats.  Cayenne is a great detox aid as it causes us to sweat, which is an important process of detoxification. Combined with lemon juice and honey, cayenne tea is an excellent morning beverage for a total body detox leading to weight loss.  You can buy Cayenne in capsule forms from pharmacies or health food shops.  Alternatively you can mix the powdered form with water and drink it daily, or you can add a teaspoon or two of the powder to your daily meals. Lots of people sprinkle it on their toast or eggs in the morning and then over their food at lunch or in the evenings.

Green Tea

Drinking green tea has been proven to support weight loss. It can help the body burn calories and fats.  Green tea is not something which will slim you down over a matter of weeks but it will gently increase your metabolism (by about 4%) which will help support a healthy weight and long term weight loss.  Drinking green tea supports your body’s endurance levels when exercising.  Drink three cups of green tea daily for it to have positive effects in supporting your weight loss.

Chicken and Fish

EPA and DHA, the omega-3 fatty acids found only in fish oil, have been suggested to have the power to dramatically boost your metabolism. Fish oil increases levels of fat-burning enzymes and decreases levels of fat-storage enzymes in your body.

In addition eating chicken as well as other lean meats which contain high levels of protein force your body to process something which is actually quite hard to digest.  Therefore they body requires quite a lot of energy to break down these foods and in turn will burn calories in doing so. More importantly, the body needs protein to support building muscle which is a much bigger indicator of weight loss, as muscle burns more calories than fat.

Natural Low-fat Yogurt

Low-fat yogurt is one of the best foods to eat if you’re trying to lose weight and boost your metabolism. Yogurt is full of calcium and protein. It gives you the energy your body needs to keep going all day and helps you build lean muscle mass which as already discussed is the key indicator of increasing your body’s ability to burn calories. Yogurt can also help regulate your digestive tract which is essential in maintaining a healthy weight.  When you eat natural yogurt, the calcium signals your fat cells to pump out less cortisol, which promotes weight loss, while the amino acids within the yoghurt supports the body to burn more fat.

Oatmeal

If you’re looking for a way to jumpstart your metabolism in the morning, start off your day with a bowl of oatmeal. Alternatively you can sprinkle this on your cereal, or porridge.  This super food is rich in fat soluble fibre, which requires a lot of calories to break down. In addition eating oatmeal can also help decrease your cholesterol levels and reduce your risk of heart disease.
